Some couples radiate joy, and Laura and Darran are one of them. During our planning, Laura told me, "We are best friends. We laugh. A lot." That happiness was obvious from the moment I arrived at the wedding house. I'm Paul Hickey of Once in a Lifetime Photography, and this was their Hogarths Stone Manor wedding.
A Bright Spring Morning
The day began with sunshine streaming through the rooms. I photographed the preparations alongside Laura's team of eight bridesmaids. The room was full of excitement and laughter. Those getting-ready moments set the tone for the whole day.
Natural Moments & Genuine Joy
As a recommended Hogarths Stone Manor wedding photographer, I know how to work with couples who prefer natural moments. Darran was camera-shy, so I used a documentary approach and stayed in the background. Laura loves candid photography. Every genuine laugh and spontaneous moment was exactly what she wanted kept.
The ceremony took place in the Pump Rooms, with the gardens as a backdrop. Two best friends made their promises, surrounded by their closest family and friends.
Blue-Hour Portraits on the Garden Bench
One highlight was a set of portraits on a wooden bench in the gardens. I lit Laura and Darran with off-camera flash against the blue-hour sky. The result is quiet, romantic images of two people starting married life together.
My favourite moment was the smoke bomb shot with Laura and her bridesmaids. They wore elegant grey gowns against the green of the grounds. Teal smoke billowed around them as they celebrated together. It's the kind of image guests ask about for years.
Confetti and Family Moments
The confetti shot after the ceremony shows Laura's genuine surprise as biodegradable confetti filled the air. Darran stands beside her, protective and smiling. Together they tell their story against the decorated ceremony space.
The celebration flowed from their 3 pm ceremony into the evening entertainment. Their 16-month-old son, Carter, stole hearts as page boy. Darran's eldest son, Reegan, was best man. The venue's rooms and grounds suited every part of the day.
A Day Full of Laughter and Soul
Laura and Darran's wedding was everything they hoped for: relaxed, full of fun and photographed naturally. From morning preparations to the night-time celebrations, the day reflected who they are. They are best friends who have found each other for good.
