Sometimes the most memorable weddings break the traditional rules. Lesley and Liam's evening celebration at Hogarths Stone Manor was built entirely around their own love story. A Love Story Eight Years in the Making
Lesley and Liam met through a family connection. It grew into an eight-year romance full of shared adventures and laughter. They love travel, dining out and exploring together. They often say the same thing at exactly the same moment.
Stone Manor holds a special place in their hearts. Their first date was at Stanbrook Abbey. Nearly every date after that took them back to Stone Manor, where room 224 became their favourite. On Lesley's 55th birthday, Liam got down on one knee there to propose. He waited what felt like an age while Lesley chatted with guests. He had secretly invited family and friends for a surprise engagement celebration.
An Evening-Only Wedding Photography Experience
Many couples book full-day wedding photography coverage. Lesley and Liam had already asked a family friend to photograph their legal ceremony. Then they met me at a wedding fair and saw my creative evening work. They knew they wanted something special for their celebration at Stone Manor.
This evening-only approach let us focus entirely on the reception. From 7 pm until 11 pm, I photographed the celebration without the time pressure of a full wedding day schedule.
The Wedding Box: A Creative Guest Experience
Lesley wanted a different way to photograph every guest. That led to the debut of my custom wedding box. It's a handmade wooden box with oak edging. It stood on the balcony of Stone Manor's Garden Room.
The idea was simple. Each guest put their head into the box while I made their portrait with studio lighting. I later composited the individual portraits into one large group artwork.
All 65 guests joined in with enthusiasm and laughter. Watching them take turns gave me plenty of candid moments of curiosity and delight.
The final composite image took six hours of careful editing. The result is a one-off piece of art no ordinary group photo could match. It shows everyone who shared in the celebration.
Creative Night Portraits at Stone Manor
Despite cloudy skies and occasional rain, the evening still worked well for dramatic creative photography. Stone Manor's Tudor-style architecture and grounds gave plenty of options for artistic portraits.
With Lesley and Liam, I created a series of signature evening portraits. They show off both the venue and their joyful personalities:
Dramatic Silhouettes against Stone Manor's illuminated frontage gave classic, romantic images. They show the couple's connection and the scale of the building.
Smoke Bomb Photography added theatrical drama to their portraits, with colored smoke creating ethereal effects against the historic stone architecture.
Bubble Effects added playful romance. Hundreds of bubbles caught the flash and filled the frame with points of light.
Champagne Spray Shots captured pure celebration and joy, with dynamic action shots that matched the festive mood of their evening.
Creative Lighting with Coloured Gels turned ordinary spaces into bold backdrops. The result is cinematic portraits quite unlike traditional wedding photography.
Celebrating with Family and Friends
The reception atmosphere was terrific - a close-knit group of family and friends who shared in Lesley and Liam's happiness. Stone Manor's garden room made a relaxed setting for their celebration, with its beautiful balcony overlooking the grounds.
Key moments included their first dance as a married couple and a touching father-daughter dance. Energetic dancefloor celebrations showed how much their guests loved being there.
My candid guest photography caught real emotions, from quiet conversations in the gardens to laughter on the dancefloor. These natural moments between the creative sessions tell the real story of the night.
A Spectacular Sparkler Exit
The evening ended with a sparkler exit that brought all 65 guests outside despite the cloudy weather. Everyone formed a tunnel of light for the send-off, which closed our photography coverage.
The sparkler shots show both the scale of the moment and the small details. The warm glow lit Lesley and Liam's faces and the delighted expressions of their guests.
