Documentary wedding photography and creative night portraits for couples wanting natural moments and something magical.

Sometimes the most memorable weddings break all the traditional rules. Lesley and Liam's evening celebration at Hogarths Stone Manor was one of those unforgettable occasions that perfectly captured their unique love story while creating something completely original.

A Love Story Eight Years in the Making

Lesley and Liam's journey began through a family connection that blossomed into an eight-year romance built on shared adventures, laughter, and countless memories. Their love for travel, dining out, and exploring life together created a bond so strong that they often find themselves saying the same thing at the exact moment - true soulmates on the same wavelength.

Stone Manor holds a particularly special place in their hearts. After their first successful date at Stanbrook Abbey, nearly every subsequent date took them back to Stone Manor, where they claimed room 224 as their favourite retreat. It was here, on Lesley's 55th birthday, that Liam spent what felt like an eternity on one knee, waiting for the perfect moment to propose as Lesley chatted with family and friends he'd secretly invited for the surprise engagement celebration.

An Evening-Only Wedding Photography Experience

While many couples book full-day wedding photography coverage, Lesley and Liam had already arranged for a family friend to capture their legal ceremony. However, after meeting me at a wedding fair and seeing my creative evening work, they knew they wanted something extraordinary for their celebration at Stone Manor.

This evening-only approach allowed us to focus entirely on creating magical memories during the reception. From 7 pm until 11 pm, we captured every moment of joy, creativity, and celebration without the time constraints of a traditional wedding day schedule.

The Wedding Box: A Creative Guest Experience

Lesley wanted something completely different—a way to capture every single guest uniquely and memorably. This led to the debut of my custom wedding box: a beautifully crafted wooden box with oak edging, positioned on the balcony in Stone Manor's elegant garden room.

The concept was simple yet brilliant: each guest placed their head into the box while I captured their portrait using professional studio lighting. The result? Individual character studies that would later be composited into one spectacular group artwork.

All 65 guests thoroughly enjoyed the experience, embracing it with enthusiasm and laughter. What made this even more special was watching the genuine joy and curiosity as guests took turns, creating candid moments of anticipation and delight throughout the evening.

The final composite image required six hours of careful editing to perfect. Still, the result was a unique piece of artthat no traditional group photo could match—an accurate representation of everyone who shared in their celebration.

Creative Magic at Stone Manor

Despite cloudy skies and occasional rain, the evening provided perfect conditions for dramatic creative photography. Stone Manor's stunning architecture and grounds offered endless opportunities for artistic portraits.

Working with Lesley and Liam, we created a series of signature evening portraits that showcased both the venue's elegance and their joyful personalities:

Dramatic Silhouettes against Stone Manor's illuminated facade created timeless, romantic imagery that emphasised their connection while showcasing the venue's grandeur.

Smoke Bomb Photography added theatrical drama to their portraits, with colored smoke creating ethereal effects against the historic stone architecture.

Bubble Effects brought a playful romance to their images, with hundreds of bubbles catching the artificial lighting to create a magical, fairytale atmosphere.

Champagne Spray Shots captured pure celebration and joy, with dynamic action shots that perfectly represented the festive mood of their evening.

Creative Lighting with Colored Gels transformed ordinary spaces into extraordinary backdrops, using professional lighting techniques to create cinematic portraits that stood out from traditional wedding photography.

Celebrating with Family and Friends

The reception atmosphere was terrific - a close-knit group of family and friends who cherished Lesley and Liam's happiness. Stone Manor's garden room provided the perfect setting for their celebration, with its beautiful balcony overlooking the grounds.

Key moments throughout the evening included their first dance as a married couple, a touching father-daughter dance, and energetic dancefloor celebrations that showed just how much their guests loved celebrating with them.

The candid guest photography captured genuine emotions and connections - from heartfelt conversations in the gardens to spontaneous laughter on the dancefloor. These natural moments between the creative sessions told the real story of their celebration.

A Spectacular Sparkler Exit

The evening culminated with a magical sparkler exit that brought all 65 guests outside despite the cloudy weather. Creating a tunnel of light, everyone participated in this traditional yet spectacular send-off that provided the perfect ending to our photography coverage.

The sparkler shots captured both the grandeur of the moment and intimate details - from the warm glow lighting Lesley and Liam's faces to the joyful expressions of their guests creating this magical moment together.
