That wedding taught me the venue properly. It rained through the ceremony and drinks reception, the barn backlit the couple, and the Yurt Marquee was dark and orange for the speeches. Getting Married at Bennetts Willow Barn
Bennetts Willow Barn is a rustic, festival-style wedding venue on a working farm at Manor Farm, Malvern Road, Lower Wick, Worcester WR2 4BS. Its wedding spaces are the Barn, the Yurt Marquee and the Marquee Garden, and the venue says it holds up to 150 guests for the day and evening. The Yurt Marquee is used from April to October, while the Barn is available all year. It is licensed for civil ceremonies in the barn, the yurt marquee and the gardens, including under a rose-covered pergola.
The atmosphere is informal. Garden games, mini-golf and space for children are part of the appeal, and guests can stay in the glamping yurts next door at Worcester Glamping, which are separate from the Yurt Marquee. The Venue Through a Photographer's Eyes
Bennetts Willow Barn changes character several times in a day, and each space needs a different approach.
The ceremony barn. It has a vaulted ceiling and large windows, and warm artificial light mixes with daylight. From the aisle, bright windows can sit directly behind the couple, which puts faces into shadow. I manage this with careful exposure on the day and careful colour work in the edit.
The Yurt Marquee. On Abbie and Sean's wedding the reception space was dark, with fabric walls and tungsten lamps turning everything orange. Their top table sat in front of an open doorway, so daylight came in behind them. Here I used three off-camera flashes, switching between them as I moved, to balance faces against the doorway.
The gardens and farm. This is where the venue gives a photographer the most. A swing, a lit wooden walkway, lawn edged by trees, a flower-growing area, deckchairs, an old horsebox, and a decorated tractor all sit within the grounds I used. That is a full portrait session without leaving the venue.

Garden swing: relaxed couple portraits by day; after dark, a softbox and off-camera flash turn it into a set for guest and family portraits.
Illuminated wooden walkway: leading lines through the garden by day; after dark, its decorative lights glow behind the couple, balanced with flash.
Lawn and trees by the reception: space for large groups and a soft green backdrop.
Flower-growing area: colour and texture in summer.

Log wall: after dark, logs lit with a half-CTO gelled flash for a warm amber glow, with the couple lit separately.

How I Photograph a Bennetts Willow Barn Wedding
I plan the lighting before the guests arrive, because the barn and marquee both need it. Before the speeches, I check the top-table position, how bright the doorway behind it is, and where stands can go without blocking guests. Once speeches start, there is no time to move anything.
The rest of the day is documentary coverage. I follow the morning, the ceremony and the reception as they happen, with only light direction for groups and portraits. Abbie and Sean wanted a few posed photographs, but they cared most about natural moments, especially with their three-year-old daughter Margo. That balance is how I work at every wedding.
After dark, I switch to creative night portraits using off-camera flash, gels and smoke. At Bennetts Willow Barn the walkway, the log wall and the swing give me three distinct set-ups within the grounds.
If it rains
Rain does not stop good photographs at Bennetts Willow Barn, but it changes the plan. On Abbie and Sean's wedding, drizzle lasted through the ceremony and drinks reception. Guests gathered in the Yurt Marquee, so most candid photographs came from there. A short dry spell was enough for the large group photograph, with some guests keeping umbrellas up, and then the smaller family groups.
My advice is to agree your group list in advance, so we can go outside the moment the rain eases. Ask the venue where a large group could go if it never stops; I have not yet tested an indoor option for a full group here.
A Real Wedding at Bennetts Willow Barn
Abbie and Sean married at Bennetts Willow Barn on 27 August 2026, with their three-year-old daughter Margo as flower girl and ring bearer. Abbie got ready in a rented cottage, where Margo spent the morning trying on her mother's shoes and twirling with an umbrella in the garden. The ceremony in the barn included handfasting, live singing and a bubble exit, photographed from both ends of the aisle by me and my assistant Danielle.
Rain shaped the afternoon, but the portraits still covered the swing, the walkway, the tractor and smoke in the glamping area. In the evening came walkway and log-wall portraits, flash-lit confetti, and a swing set-up that produced a wide collection of guest and family portraits.
